Nope. Americans have been conditioned to believe that they are in control of all their responses to live. This is complete and utter baloney.
The idea that one must be positive in the event of terrible things happening to you is crazy. You are allowed to weep, to cry out loud, to fight back, to blame others, etc.
You need to read some books on just how screwed up the idea of positive responses to negative situations are.
The thing is, even if you convinced yourself to be positive, at an unconscious level, your brain is quite sane. It will sort that into 'unhappy experiences,' and if you haven't dealt with it rationally (cry, weep, hurt, etc.) then it's going to store it, and it will haunt you.
