Yes, a lot of people do agree with the way I see this. I think there’s quite a bit of intense feeling about it these days as evidenced by my article, “Why I muted all writing publications yesterday.” You can read through the comments if you like.
Essentially, I would classify you as a success marketer or a commercial writer or something of a copy writer. You’re promoting things. This isn’t really what I call a writer, and it certainly isn’t what writers have been lauded for in the past. In my youth, there was a very sharp line drawn between people who wrote promotional copy and writing that made you think.

I also happen to believe that knowledge of all sorts should be shared, and that it’s unethical to charge for anything that enables people to learn. The reasons are stated in my article below.
Of course, you will always make more money than I will, and I understand that’s why you do it. I just can’t bring myself to chanrge people for data that will improve their lives.
I’m pretty sure my initial post was very clear, especially the example I gave. The people who responded to it understood it pretty well.
