Nice bit of writing. I'm okay with living my life mostly inside these days. To be honest, though, I was in London when the world started shutting down. I had to cancel my trip to Portugal and to the States. I lost a bit of money on that.
Then I went to my sister in South Africa, stayed in Cape Town for a week and watched the city shut down. My sister came to fetch me, and I spent a year in George, a small town in the south.
I grew restless, though. One year into Covid, I wanted out. The only way out was through my German citizenship. So I flew to Germany, and from there, I've been out and about. I don't mix with people, though. I'm alone.
My daughter joined me in Portugal from Houston 5 months ago. We arrived in Ireland yesterdasy. We've just walked down the high street - shades of the way a high street (main street) used to be. I'm back to the days of the British Empire, of the way life used to be.
Full circle. I'm 70. You're 40. You have lots of life to live. Life it well.
