More than 40 years ago, I told a pastor in a church that I couldn't cope with the number of men in the church who came on to me. "Oh," he said, "you must expect it. You're beautiful."

It appears nothing has changed. Men seem to think that they have a right to approach any woman just because they want to speak to her. I still DMs on Facebook, Twitter, Quora, etc. Well, until I closed up the ability to contact me.

Most of them are scammers these days, but if you call them out, you get the vilest langague out, thereby exposing just how awful these guys are. No decent man would approach a woman he didn't know or where there wasn't a some sort of indication that she was interested.

Men have to be taught that it's not okay to approach a woman whom they do not know. Being 'picked up' was not a good thing in my generation. I suspect the reason was that it opened a whole range of unacceptable behaviours.
