Medium switched its customer base. The customer base is no longer the reader. It is now the wannabe writer. Figure from book publishers show that 5% read while 84% of Americans are wannabe writers. So the market is really to ‘teach wannabe writers how to write.”

They are willing to pay lots of money to learn how to become writers. The truth is that we are all taught to write in the first year of school, and then we refine that process until about the7th year. If by that time, we have not figured out how to write grammatically, it is highly unlikely that we have the intelligence to become professional writers.

The other side of this is that, regardless of how good one’s grasp of grammer, sentence structure, paragraphing, etc., if one doesn’t have a good brain, imagination, and a wide degree of knowledge, one will never be a writer. Writers, after all, need to write something that readers want to read.

There are a large number of ‘writers’ on this site who are all trying to be read, but who fail miserably. Trying to tell them their topic matter is off is a lost cause. They simply don’t believe it.

They, however, are a bigger market for Medium to cater to, than readers.
