'Lots' is relative. If there are 320 million people in the United States and 1 million of them read, it's less than a percent. That's not lots. The actual percent of people in the USA who read poetry is 11.7% - 28 million people.

I find that most people who read poetry are depressed, and their 'poetry' reflects that. What they think of as meaningful, I think of as lost.

Never heard of Wendell Berry. I'm not American. However, I did take a look at what he wrote.
