Jacques. historical evidence would include sculptures of Jesus that could be carbon dated to the time he lived. There isn't any of that. It would mean that any of the few hundred writers and historians who were alive at the time would write about him. They didn't. The first mention of him of a person who was born about 30 years after Jesus supposedly lived. The only problem is that none of the surviving manuscripts earlier than 1000 AD mention him.
Mention of him sneak into his writings after that date. In other words, they were inserted there - no doubt by the church who desperately wanted to prove his existence.
Please believe me, I spent 10 years looking for evidence of his existence. It does not exist. Writings about him are no more proof of his existence than writings about Thor or Shiva or any other god.
No, we don't control others, but they are our responsibility. Our children are our responsibility. If we own a business, they are our responsibility. If we are in government, they are our responsibility.
As I wrote in my article, there is a difference between the act of forgiveness (acknowledging a debt has been paid) and acceptance that someone did something shitty to you and letting it go.
The issue here, I think, is that some want to believe that we can and should be friends with all and sundry. Sorry, I don't believe that, and I find absolutely nothing wrong with determining and assessing whether what someone did was evil.
Again, there is the confusion between judgement (the dealing out of punishment) and determining guilty. Even in current day courts, this is different.
