I've thought of stupidity and socialization (indoctrination, brainwashing). I watched, years ago, as someone, living in the mid-west, was a raving Trumpeteer. And then she moved to Califonia, and changed her mind.

I think people are influenced by their peers. It's the only thing I can think of. Most people are not independent thinkers.
