I've read that before. Nothing new. Here's my take.
I think everybody I know on Facebook (except one or two) only have their friends there. I would never be able to keep up with my friends in so many countries if I didn't have FB. I would be letter writing 24/7, and it's just too much time.
None of us are on Facebook to make new friends or meet new people. I have my friends in South Africa, in the States, in the UK, in Spain, in Portugal, etc. I know them personally. We have spent time together in real life.
To me, FB is ideal. I certainly cannot afford phone calls explaining the same thing to everybody. Or writing the same thing in letters to everybody. On FB, I can make one post sharing what I'm doing, and my friends can do the same. That way we keep up with each other.
I would suggest that much of the issue with Facebook is the desire of so many to receive affirmation and applause for whom they are.
