I've been giving some thought to what lies behind it. It comes down to the belief that freedom is unique to America. And if one takes away that freedom, then America is not unique anymore.

Some Americans appear to have an obsessive need to believe that America is the greatest country in the world, and that Americans are truly exceptional - Me Tarzan, you flower petal - and that is the sign of something truly broken deep inside these people.

People who are whole inside do not need to be constantly assured that they are great.
