It's true that many not-so-attractive people have used modern technology to 'upgrade' their looks. There are genuinely beautiful people in the world, though. And they don't 'upgrade' their looks. Not so many, though.

So let's say that only the pictures of the genuine beauties and goodlooking men appear on the web. The fact that other people want to look like them isn't their fault. It's the inability to accept oneself as one is. It's the desire to get what they have. Don't blame social media for creating 'unreal standards.' That's not the issue.
