It works in the boonies in other countries, Tony. When I was living in Andalucía, even though the village I was in only had about 4000 people, there was a free bus that circled the town every 30 minutes so people could go anywhere. There were also a few dozen buses to nearby cities every single day.
My point is that if sufficient public transport isn't available now, people have to do everything in their power to get authorities to implement it.
(I do understand your personal issue, Tony, and I understand that it cannot be resolved until thee is decent public transport, but decent public transport means coverage for all situations).
