It took me a long time. It's also a lot more to do with luck than anything else. I finally got a break through when a piece I wrote hit on a senstive topic, and that brought traffic. Within a month, I had picked up 800 followers, and from there I have started earning and I have a steady readership.

Others have been lucker much earlier.
