It seems like an awful lot of people who are not European and who have never lived in a European country are quite keen to tell those of us who do and are that people in the EU (and the UK) would see the American left as right.

That simply is not true.

I cannot see any American left banning Muslim dress at schools. The French left have done that.

I cannot see the American left banning puberty blockers. The British left has just done that.

The German left promotes anti-capitalism, anti-fascism, and anti-militarism, and is neutral on European integration. How is that different from the American left.

The American left uses identity politics and civil rights for these different identities as the way they promote themselves.

Briefly, when Bernie Sanders came up with 'democratic socialism,' everybody was in to nationalizing health services, and that was about it.

The American left is NOT seen as on the right by people in Europe.

So, yes, American left is a left wing party. It would not be seen as on the right by people in Europe.
