It is 2070, and This is What the World Looks Like…

I thought I’d climb into my time machine and look around me.

I am shocked.

I knew intellectually that it was likely that we would be approaching near extinction levels by 2100 but nothing like this. Around me, the trees and flowers and fragrance are lush. It reminds me of a trip to took into African primal jungle in 1975, but even then, it is nothing like this.

I’m scared of snakes, though. Always have been. Always will be. I wonder as I glance around me if any new species have evolved. I am standing on a hilltop, and I’m looking around. This place must have been a city at one time because I see tall crumbling towers around me, but nowhere do I see people. It is all deserted. Well, no, I lie. There’s lots of life around me — it’s just not human life.

I walk on. I’m on a road of some sort. I think it must have been a highway at one time. I wonder where I am. After an hour or so, I hear something, and my heart stops. I am almost sure it is the sound of human voices. More to the point, they are English speaking, and I can understand what they are saying.

“I’m almost out of ammo. We’re going to have to trek further to see if we can find anymore.”
