In the UK, the happiest people are retired people. I suspect that is true for most Europeans. Once one retired, one can see the world. The state pays most people a good pension. So, no, most people there don't die as soon as they are pensioned off.
The people who are the least stressed and the happiest in their jobs are small business owners. The most stressed are middle managers, and the unhappiest are workers.
For me, it was the other way round. I forgave everybody when I was young. Now, they can all go dance a jolly gig on Mars without Oxygen. Too many people are out for what they can take.
