In the days working towards my degree in interior design, I did a lot of architecture classes. The buildings of yesteryear were not designed by architects or engineers. They were designed and put together by artists and craftsman.

It had nothing to do with personal expression. Those buildings still stand today and they beat the socks off anything that architects design today - with all their freedom of expression.

Craft can be art, and art can be craft.

"There are many artists who’s work seems to look ‘skill-less’, but in fact took great skill to produce work that appears ‘childlike’ or simplistic."

I would say that when one is skilled at something, it is extremely easy to do something childlike. I can write like a ten year old with ease. It's absurd to say that a highly skilled person would find it difficult to do the type of work he did when he as 8 or 13.
