In 1984, despite coming from an extremely successful family (financially) and been schooled privately, I told my father I didn't like capitalism. I explained to him why.
He said, "Those are the excesses of capitalism." He did shortly after that. As a journalist in prewar Germany, he wrote a good few articles, and there was one writen in the 20s (nearly a 100 years ago).
He wrote that at this point, there would be a clash between socialism and capitalism, and, the way he described it, it's all happening.
What I picked up in early 1984 was from the newly appearing yuppies - the money was the thing. Everything else went out the window.
