I'm South African.

We have the highest rape numbers in the world - with police and authorities estimating it's 40%. That includes baby rape.

We are also said to be the most violent country in the world outside an active war zone, and if you count the number of reported and unreported murders, we are more violent than Gaza.

The reality is that men are biologically more violent than women. This is why, in days of old, fathers kept their daughters protected.

We learn fast in Africa. If you come across the lion, we don't say to it, "Please, Mr Lion, respect my human rights. It is not a civilized thing to eat me." We understand the nature of the lion. So we avoid the lion. And if we are unlucky enough to come across it, we have weapons to protect ourselves.

We live in a world where each species lives off another species. If there was ever a designer (intelligent designer), he/it/they/she had a warped sense of humour.

A while ago, I heard an Israeli say, "In America, they teach you how to earn a living. Is Israel, they teach us how to earn a living. And how to survive."

I am not a feminist because I don't have time for nonsense. I live in the real world. I am a strong woman - a very strong woman. I have traveled, lived, and worked in many countries, including 11 years in the States. I have never been raped. I have also always been on my own, with nobody to protect me. I am take care not to put myself into dangerous situations.

In America, I read about woman saying, "If I was going out and wanted to get drunk, then I should be allowed to get drunk without the fear of getting raped. Men should respect me. Lions shouldn't eat me."

I think it's highly unlikely that laws will ever change the nature of the animals, and make no mistake, humankind is just another animal on this planet.

We either understand our own limits or we don't. We make peace with reality, and we act accordingly.

I hope you understand what I am saying, why it's possible to be an exceptionally strong woman, to be a survivalist, and to survive when all the odds are against you, to live in a world of danger, and not have the need to demand that the world changes to meet you. It's a losing battle.
