I'm sorry. I didn't say that the algorithm was misogynistic. I don't believe that for a moment. Nor do I believe Medium has a preference for male writers.

I think some women got lucky, and they wrongly interpreted that luck to be due to their writing/topic, etc. The bottom line is that we all get lucky on a website sooner or later, and when the algorithm changes, it's only the readers that are genuinely interested that remain.

Algorithms aren't based on ideology. They are usually based on commercial profit. On a site like this, the algorith would look at the read/view ratio. If it was low, it wouldn't provide that many views anymore. If people were clicking on 'read less of this, 'they wouldn't send any more people there. If readers were bypassing views, and not clicking to read, the algorithm wouldn't send more views.

It's true that editors can determine who flourishes and who doesn't. Thankfully, Medium has done away with most of them. In my experience, editors don't generally chose the best articles or the best writers. if you look at the editor's picks, they suck.
