I'm somewhat confused as to what you mean. Firstly, I"m born and bred in Africa. I'm not American. Regardless of whether people are African or non-African, relocating is difficult if you cannot adapt tp another culture easily, so I think that statement, "better the devil you know than the devil you don't' is appropriate. Of course, it's a British idiom and might have some other meaning in America. I don't know.
