I'm not making a profit on any writing. I may or may not get paid for my work. A profit is what is left over at year end over and above everything, after all expenses have been paid.

For instance, at the end of each financial year, after the company has paid all its staff, paid the rent, set aside money for future investment, etc, there is money left over. This is profit. It is paid to shareholders and owners.

Being paid a fee for one's work is akiin to salary or a wage. It is not profit.

What makes my work so different? I am not hired to write. I write on content writing sites, and if my writing isn't read or if people don't donate or become my patrons, then I am not paid. I self-publish my own ebooks, and if people don't buy them, again, I'm not paid.

The choice of whether to pay me or not rests with my reader.

I'm not being hired.
