I'm not into the word 'empathy' so much, but I get your general idea. I think it's a lack of awareness of others. I don't know what a word for that is. I think empathy means you feel others and because you feel for them, you care for them. However, I think it's possible to know what others are thinking/feeling by their responses (to a degree, anyway), but that might not mean one cares for them. However, one can then respond appropriately.

This guy didn't notice sarcasm, irony, or anything else. So I think he was unaware. Do you agree?
