I'm guessing here.
1. None of the judges were readers, otherwise they would know that none of the winning contestants could write a damn.
2. They had a list of what to look for which literature professors teach 'aspiring writers.' It's a bullshit list, and it does not make for good writing. The only people who think so are those who are dumb enough to believe it. The winning entries all had those 'high points.
3. The lady who won was loojking for a way to promote her book, so she took a chapter out of it.
I hope Meidum learnt their lesson, but I don't think so.
