I'm an anti-capitalist. You make that sound as if it's a mortal sin.
However, I'm not an anti-capitalist because of 'colonialism, imperialism, oppression, and genocide.'
Those things have existed for as long as mankind has. Capitalism is a mere 250 years old. Capitalism is an economic system of production and distribution. That's it.
I'm anti-capitalist because the greed which is driving is results in the destruction of our environment. Trade and capitalism are not the same thing.
Trade has been around since the agricultural age. Capitalism is about 250 years old. Not the same thing.
The climate crisis has nothing to do with 'racist, oppressive extractivism' or whatever else. It has to do with the excessive production of goods which often involves poisoning the environment, which has led to climate change over a period of time.
I think the emphasis on profit has activated greed to the extent that people keep producing regardless of whether that particular line of production destroys the environment or nto.
So, yes, I'm anticapitalist. While socialism to a regulated degree will help some of the social injustices, it has nothing to do with fixing climate change.
So, no, being anti-capitalist is not a mortal sin. I want to be able to go on living in a world where there aren't floods and fires ever five minutes.
