If you were a boer in South Africa, you'd have very low status because it was your political affiliation that caused apartheid and murdered hundreds of thousands of black people, stole their land, imprisoned them, forced them to have pass laws, prevented them from earning the same salary (by law) as a white person, passed laws that said that they couldn't be educated to the same level as a white person because they were half ape (from my anthropology book in South Africa when I was doing an anthropology degree), etc.

So, yes, you would probably be armed.
