I worked for a number of years for two publishing houses as an editor. I would never have dared to change someone's writing. One of the jobs I did was quite interesting. He was semiliterate, but it was the semilieracy that was so powerful in the telling of the story. The book was called An Urban Robinson Cruesoe by Des Marshall. It did very well.. I made very sure that I kept some of the wording to the way he wrote them.
