I went through numerous dictionaries a few days ago. There are only two genders - male and female. The attempt to subvert the meaning of the word is, um, heinous. :)

While I'm sure that there is a lot we don't understand yet, it recently came out that being gay was not genetic.

I suspect a lot of our sexual identity goes back to psychological imprinting of some sort, but it hasn't been researched yet.

That said, I'm deeply concerned about the growing irrationality of the human species. These things did not exist when I was growing up. And, no, they were not pushed under the table. I am still in touch with the girls I went to school with. After 52 years, I think at least one of us would have had a problem like this if it existed.
