I was caught, at the beginning of the lockdown in Cape Town, South Africa. I was in a hostel. Subsequently, for the next year, I lived in two Airbnb. They had to mark them down because the government didn't allow tourist business. They were both nice places to stay.
However, on principle, I will never use Airbnb. They have destroyed the local rent market for locals. There are no more places for them to stay, because instead of renting to monthly borders, they only rent very expensive rooms to tourists.
I think the government should shut them down. This is an international problem, and it has been written about extensively.
