I want to go back to this idea about Twitter being a place for people to organize for climate change, etc.

Not true.

I've been an environmentalist since 1970 and had been writing or posting about this virtually every day for the past 15 years. In January, this year, I gave up. It is absolutely pointless.

However, I follow groups like Sunrise and Extinction Rebellion and they have very, very little clout. Nothing like Occupy had when it broke. And that had nothing to do with Twitter.

I have always wondered why so many people were enamored with Twitter. it's totally useless as far as I can see.

Then, in the last few weeks, I discovered that 80% of the tweets on Twitter come from 10% of the people. Then I discovered a few days ago that a blue check mark meant that someone was important. Then I looked at some of those people and fell about laughing.

OMG. People are following celebrities and famous people, and they are 'having this conversation' in response to what these famous people said. Never having being impressed with celebrities and having no interest in them, I couldn't make it out.

I'm afraid those aren't important conversations. :)
