I think what is true is that editors tend to be the kind of people who take out their personal likes and dislikes on writers. If you've pissed off an editor, they will, sure as hell, find a way of negating you.

I've experienced this on so many sites that I'm 100% sure it exists. However, I don't think it has anything to do with gender - more to do with ego, politics, religious beliefs, etc.
