I think there's a lot of confusion here. The time to stop using fossil fuels (as well as stop manufacturing, etc.) is long past. We have turned the corner. It is now impossible to stop climate change.

NASA says that even if we stopped using all fossil fuels right now, it would take a 1000 years to return to pre-industrial climate.

It is absolutely irrelevant now to stop fossil fuels for our own safety. If we stop them now, it's in order to return the planet to for our descendants. Except that we will long be extinct by then.
