I think the article below is true. This is a country where who you know gets things done, and where the bureaucracy asks you to do things like:

1. Get two Portuguese voters to guarantee your rent, or pay a year's rent upfront.

2. You're entitled to national health care, but we'll just ghost you because you speak English and we don't want you.

3. You need a vaccination? No worries, but not until you're a member of the health care system.

4. You want your European residency? Well, can we see your bank statements?

5. Departments are different at every office. One office can ask you for this, and the next office can ask you for that.

The fact is that if you're a European resident, all you have to show is proof of address and a European passport.

It's corrupt, inefficient, and the food is terrible.
