I think it depends on what one wants to achieve. My value system thinks that we survive and thrive well with others when we value a good character. We make loyal friends, etc.

However, while I'm not a fan of emotional intelligence, I do think that it has nothing to do with the kind of problem solving that I'm talking about, and I don't think I was clear about that.

Examples would be:

1. How do you get 8.5 billion people to give up what they enjoy in order to adapt to climate change?

2. How do you change the monetary system so that it is not corrupted for the sake of a few?

3. How do you build a bridge that will withstand an earthquake?

4. How do you relocate a city full of people when there is a Category 6 hurricane arriving in 24 hours? (Yeah, yeah, but I think there soon will be a Category 6...)

These are problem solving questions. While some of them will require a solid understanding of sociology and how people work, it isn't about people relationships.
