"I submitted to other publications and prefer ones that have editors who actually read my pieces and provide constructive notes."

There is this misconception that an editor of a publication is there to correct or advice the writer. On the contrary, the editor is there to determine which piece will sell the magazine - in the real world, that is.

On a site like Medium where everybody can open their own magazine, editor just means the person who owns the magazine. It doesn't mean that they have any obligation to the writer, and they might not even know whether the writing is good or bad.

All they want is as many articles as possible on their magazine in the hope that one article will catch someone's attention, and that reader will then read their magazine, meaning that possibly the editor's article will be read, thereby earning the editor some money. That's it.
