I spent 11 years in the States. It has no workers’ rights compared to other first world countries. That isn’t why I won’t discuss payment with Medium. I just think it’s a lost cause.

Medium has never been run at a profit, according to some. Other business figures have indicated that it makes a $30 million profit each year (I have done the figures in one of my pieces). I also took a look at some of the demands of Medium writers. One comes to mind – that every Medium writer should be paid $1000 per month, because we’re providing value to the company. I also read elsewhere that Medium had 175,000 writers. So, I multiplied the annual $12,000 per writer by the number of writers and found that Medium would run at a $32 billion loss annually if they did as some writers suggested.

Every company has a mission statement. The mission statement is designed to make clients trust and respect the company. It has nothing to do with any form of reality. So, while I have now realized what Medium’s mission statement is, I am going to continue to do with it what I do with the mission statements of all busine

sses – treat it with the caution.

I doubt reading times will be affected by the addition of audio. I think it’s going to add – not subtract. Many people don’t like to read. Also, all content writing sites are unstable, and Medium is the only one currently where it’s fairly easy to earn.

For the record, Medium threatened me with suspension in early December because I held certain opinions against a protected species. I have subsequently closed all my magazines and opened a general blog on Medium. I am also in the process of setting up so that I can write serial fiction.

The writing life is precarious. Platforms, magazines, publishing houses change and adapt to the market all the time. So writers have to adapt. I’ve done well on Medium during the past year, but I also know that time is running out, so I’m already preparing for that.
