I noticed that you joined in April, 2018, when Medium had far fewer writers, and where it was much easier to gain followers.

Those of us who have been writing on the web since its inception in the early 90s do not focus on followers. We focus on writing about topics that people search for.

When Medium announced that it had discovered that most readers followed certain writers they liked, many of us were really peeved. We don't follow writers - we follow topics.

I'm convinced that Medium was taken in by all the people who follow success marketers - telling people how to be a success at this and that - and that lots of people follow that. I don't think most people follow writers.
