I lived in three small towns in my life - in Spain, in Scotland, and in South Africa. Thank you, and no thank you, and never again.
There are too many things that small villages and towns don't have - swing dancing, ballroom dancing, Latino dancing, heated swimming pools, well stocked libraries, lots of great architecture, shops, shops, and shops, etc.
I get bored and frustrated out of my mind in small towns. In both Scotland and Spain, I would take the bus to the big city and explore there. I love walking down the streets with a camera, seeing beautiful clothes, furniture, and creative items of beauty.
As it happens, there is no accommodation anywhere in Ireland. Because it is so small, people live in the small villages and commute to the cities. I've looked at the small villages. One ad would have 9,000 views. That's how desperate I was.
As it turns out, we are meeting with a landlord tomorrow (through some networking by my daughter) and hopefully we quality.
:)
