I have never found that promoting one's own work gives anything more than a handful of reads - unless one is famous and has millions of followers.

Getting 10 or 20 views is meaningless. So I've never bothered with promoting my own work. The only thing i do is post a friend link on my fb page, essentially because my Patreon friends ar there, so that they can read it free if they like.

That said, usually there is traffic from other places, but I didn't put my post there. That is much more effective.
