I have lived in countries with democratic socialism for most of my life. My 11 years in America was an eye opener. I left.

Yes, socialism is when the government owns the means of production. Totalitarianism is when the government owns you and the means of production. Democratic socialism is a mixed economy. It is when the government owns some of the means of production - those which benefit we-the-people.

I disagree about it being corporatism. Business owners generally suck. Anyone who is paying minimum wage shuouldn't be in business. And American labor laws are equivalent to the worst of 3rd world countries.

Maybe the young have just traveled more, spoken to people in other first world countries, and America doesn't measure up.
