I have always said that writers (not those who work as commercial writers) are poorly paid. Basically, any money in writing comes from copywriting (ads) or, nowadays, content writing for companies.

Other than getting a job as a journalist or a feature writer on a magazine (and jobs and salaries have been destroyed by the web), there are no positions for writers.

These days, writers are ten a penny because everyone wants to be a writer. When I was young, every little girl wanted to be a ballet dancer and every little boy a fireman. Take your pick.

The world has changed.
