I have always defined evil as behavior that results in destruction. Good would be defined as resulting in survival.
By destruction I mean human beings who destroy the lives of others purposely. Or they destroy the eco-system purposely.
Why is evil not the opposite of good? If you do what is good, you are doing things that promote the survival and well-being of communities. Or do you prefer to use the word benevolence.
Not sure about Steven Pinker. I have never thought highly of him. And while I agree that our surroundings have more impact on human behavior than upbringing, I would say that because people are so very different, it still has less impact than biology.
