I have absolutely no idea why so many people buy into this fairy tale that one is supposed to advertise to one's family. These are the last people on earth to want to read what one has written. That includes friends.

When one writes well, and when one writes about something that people want to read, and if oen is lucky, then one makes a living out of writing. Probably maybe 1% of writers make a living out of it. The rest, according to the IRS make $1000 a year.
