I first heard about the 'noble savage' during my school days in the 60s (Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad) in English Lit classes.

I am South African but left for the first time in 1973. When I returned in 1975, the Africans had changed. They had become violent. (Sowetoville). Before that, I knew a kind, loving, wise people. I have never forgotten that.

I studied anthropology during the 70s at the University of South Africa.
