I don't think the problem is social media. The problem is that people shouldn't be getting their news and other data from social media. I most definitely don't. I get that information from reading about two dozen newspapers each day from Asia, Africa, Europe, and America. I also include a number that come from different political ideologies to my own.
When it comes to social media, I do not want to assoicate with people who have different values to my own. I want to be free to say what I like without offending others. For instance, I am an atheist. I don't want to have to watch my words because there are religious people around.
To assume that, just because people like to be with those who share their values, they don't know or understand other values, is somewhat presumptuous. I spent some 40 of my 71 years believing in god and studying whichever religion I was in.
I have spent most of my life reading, and I read widely. When it comes to Social Media, thank you. I will stick to my echo-chambers.
