I don't think so. America has been divided for at least 15 to 20 years. Trump was the outcome of that - not the cause.

When I arrived in the States in 2003, I was gobsmacked to find that the biggest single divisive issue was abortion. I couldn't believe that something so primitive was concerning people in the 21st century.
