I don't know where you get that from, but most 'foreigners' are accustomed to apartments having no furniture. It has annoyed the hell out of me that I find that everything has furniture. I want my own furniture thanks.

More surprising to foreigners is that flats have no kitchens. I've lived in many countries and three continents, and that is a first.
