I don't believe that for a moment. I didn't do a stitch of work at school for the simple reason nobody explained to me why I had to work. Nobody explained to me the point of learning Latin. Nobody related gegraphy to real life. Nobdy explained to me why I had to know how DNA worked. I saw no point in any of that.
If one teacher had said something like "The reason we are laerning these topics is that the form the basics of other topics that will enable you to earn a living. For instance, you will need Latin if you study law. You will need geography is you become a climate scientist..."
I would have been very motivated to learn. I found school absolutely pointless. I had kind teachers and unkind teachers. That didn't make any difference. I have never lacked confidence in myself. I have lacked trust in others.
