I do not believe that for one moment. It made those rich who took a profit - often at the expense of those who are talented and did the real work.

Also, it wasn't capitalism that set us up for progress. It was the enlightenment that essentially outlawed the harsh dictates of religion, and introduced the scientific methodology. With those in place, progress fould finally take off.
