I couldn't give a shit about prices in restaurants. I don't go out and eat. The few times I attempted to find a decent meal, it was carb heavy. The Portuguese government has said that the Portuguese diet is terrible and that Portuguese people are very unhealthy as a result. I rest my case on that one.
I'm talking about the availability of decent, healthy food in the stores. Perhaps you don't know but processed meats are carcinogens, i.e. cancer causing.
I'm aware that one can apply for NHR. One can do that in Spain as well. Rents are low compared to other countries.
It's only a good country to live in if you don't have constant resistance from the government, don't have laws that favor locals over expats, etc. As the attorney as the consumer org said to me - it's illegal to charge more than 3 months rent, but landlords can charge a year's rent in advance because they are 'protecting' themselves 'against' foreigners.
Well, screw that. I will never go back to Portugal. And I have now met enough people who feel exactly the same way that I do.
